Who am I? Where am I? What am I?
Well, I, Maria Tuadi, am an Indonesian-American Writer, Director, Editor, Singer and Songwriter based in Los Angeles. Believe me, I know it seems like a lot of hats on one head, but the main thing to take away from all of these roles is that I have a dedication to the Arts that has manifested itself in a variety of mediums.
In June 2014, I graduated from UCLA's School of Theater Film and Television with a B.A. in Film Television and Digital Media. While there, I was lucky enough to be a mentee in the Caucus Mentorship Program, as well as receive scholarships and honors in the form of the Dana and Albert R. Broccoli Scholarship In Memory of Robert J. Natol, the 2014 Peter Stark Memorial Scholarship, the Jennifer Momtazee Memorial Scholarship, and the Alan Jacobson Award, while maintaining my presence on the Dean’s Honor Roll. But enough about my nerdiness!
My thesis project, Yellow Rice, just began making its rounds in the film festival circuit, and so far has screened at UCLA's New Works Festival as well as the First Annual Los Angeles-Indonesian Film Festival. The trailer to this short, along with other projects I've directed are available in the "Film" page.
In addition to my projects in film, I've also had the pleasure of being the lead singer and songwriter for Project One's The Bricks LA. Brought together by the Los Angeles Commission on Human Relations, we, 8 of a couple hundreds, wrote and performed conscious music that carries a sense of social awareness. More info about this can be found in the "Music" page.
Our debut EP "This Land" was co-produced and mentored by Grammy Award-winning producers such as KC Porter (Santana, Ozomatli), JB Eckl (Santana, En Vogue), Money Mark (Beastie Boys), DJ Khalil (Eminem, Dr. Dre), DJ C- Minus (Korn), Big Duke (Psycho Realm), Scarab (Living Legends), Erik “Blu2th” Griggs (Chris Brown, Jordin Sparks) and featured guest appearances by Immortal Technique and Sick- Jacken of Psycho Realm. The whole journey started during my junior year at Richard Gahr High and has not ended yet.
Here's hoping this adventure just keeps getting more and more interesting as the days fly by!
